Separation of church and state is a political and legal doctrine that government and religious institutions are to be kept separate and independent from each other. The term most often refers to the combination of two principles: secularity of government and freedom of religious exercise.

The phrase separation of church and state is generally traced to a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to the Danbury Baptists, in which he referred to the First Amendment of the United States Constitution as creating a “wall of separation” between church and state. The phrase was then quoted by the United States Supreme Court first in 1878, and then in a series of cases starting in 1947. This led to increased popular and political discussion of the concept.

The concept has since been adopted in a number of countries, to varying degrees depending on the applicable legal structures and prevalent views toward the proper role of religion in society. A similar principle of laïcité has been applied in France and Turkey, while some socially secularized countries such as Norway have maintained constitutional recognition of an official state religion. The concept parallels various other international social and political ideas, including secularism, disestablishment, religious liberty, and religious pluralism.

Our Take on This…

It is nowhere in the United States constitution. Nowhere does it say that there must be such a thing. If the U.S.A. and the church were supposed to be separated, why has “In God We Trust” been printed our currency since currency existed? Why did our founding fathers include “…equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them” in the Declaration of Independence over 200 years ago?

Honestly, I think there are very easy answers to these questions - the chore is getting the populous of the country back to it’s Biblical ways. We honestly believe that people are constantly shunning Christianity because it endangers their way of living. As a true, in love with God Christian, drinking is gone…pornography is gone…profanity is gone, the movies you watch must be changed, your music must be different. I really don’t think it is because of people not believing there is a God, but people being afraid of how he will react to what they have with what he gave them.
